ProChem Reuse System Added On to Existing Wastewater Treatment System
The Customer
A building materials manufacturing plant whose manufacturing processes utilize approximately 250,000 gallons per day of fresh water and introduce sulfates and low level metals into their wastewater.
The Problem
The manufacturer was discharging 250,000 gallons per day of industrial process wastewater containing heavy metals, sulfates, suspended solids, and other regulated contaminants. The operating costs incurred to meet the permitted discharge limits coupled with the associated water and sewer fees were a significant expense for the facility. The client explored multiple treatment options including reverse osmosis, ion-exchange, evaporation, and other water treatment technologies.
The ProChem Solution
ProChem first performed a complete water balance study along with an analysis and engineering evaluation of the facility's water reuse potential, which included determining incoming water quality requirements. ProChem was able to develop a cost effective physical/chemical treatment process, targeting both regulated and scale forming ions. The improved treatment process provided the opportunity to implement ProChem's Industrial High Pressure Reverse Osmosis (I-PRO™) wastewater reuse system prior to discharge. The I-PRO reuse process allowed the facility to reduce their overall industrial wastewater discharge by over 90%. This resulted in significant cost savings for the manufacturing facility in both treatment costs and utility fees. Production quality improvements were also achieved by increasing and controlling the facility's incoming water quality.
Moreover, ProChem's I-PRO reuse system is a space saving modular design that can be easily expanded as production volumes increase in the future. And with remote monitoring technology, the system can be monitored from any web-accessible device. Operational data can be stored and utilized for trend analysis.
